New characters!

Some new characters!

Transformers Prime - Orion Pax Design

I am excited to finally be able to show these! These are the designs that I did for Orion Pax for Hasbro's Transformers Prime TV show while I was interning at Hasbro in 2010! Orion Pax is Optimus Prime before he became a Prime when he was back on Cybertron. It was a challenging project because there wasn't much to go off of since the last time someone saw this character was in the 80s. Also it really fun because it was an opportunity to really push myself and get better at design. I was lucky enough to have a really great mentor that helped push me to keep advancing the design and making it better! Hope you guys like it! I will have to post the clip of him from the show! This was only the beginning stages so he has change quite a bit since these. Hopefully I will be able to post some of my other work from Hasbro eventually! Thanks!

The Hobbit

I did these and another one for The Hobbit Design Contest! You can check it out here! As well as my other piece here! The first three are of some weapon designs that I did for the Mirkwood Elves. The first image is of general sketches, the second one is where I took the parts of the designs that I liked and created a batch of cohesive weapons that fitted the look that I wanted. The last is a grouping of some of my favorites! I wanted to go with a more twisted and tribal look to them because of how the are from a dark forest full of mystery. I thought they should differ from the style of the other elves mainly because of the different mindset that they would have in an different environment.

And the last two images of course are just some different ideas for the lonely mountain! :D More coming soon!

Monks and Goblins!!

The first two are some sketches and renderings of some monk characters as well as some other characters that would fit in the same environment as the monks! The last three are of some Goblin sketches and renderings! These were all done with my own brushes! It has been great! It takes a while to experiment and create brushes that specifically fit with what you want to do but its well worth it. It will speed up your process and help your artwork stand out from other peoples. A lot of people use the same brush sets and it all starts to look the same but when you create your own look. Its fun to look at peoples brushes and see how they did things but its always best to use your own!

Here are some studies that I did a little while ago! The armor sketches are from drawing at the Detroit Institute of Art in person! Its always really fun to study them up close and really understand how the armor is fitting together. Also some of the renderings are from pictures I took of the armor at the DIA. I just found out that there are few pictures online (here) of some of the armor thats at the DIA (there are a lot more if you go in person). The nice thing about taking pictures of the armor yourself is that you get reflections that are a little bit more realistic to what they would be outside in real life compared to clean shots of armor with white surroundings/reflections.
These animal sketches were done at the Detroit Zoo! I have always been interested in animals and love drawing creatures which seems to fit hand in hand. These sadly were from a bit a go when I went with my buddy Justin back when I had a zoo membership (Which I need to renew!!). Hopefully I will be going back soon! Its a lot of fun!

Anyways more coming soon!

Sketchbook Pro!

Soooo my motherboard in my laptop died about four or five days ago.. soooo I have been unable to use photoshop sooo I have been using Sketchbook Pro 2010!! yay! It is kind of challenging to learn a new program especially after relaying almost solely on photoshop for my digital rendering for the last 4 or so years.. But it is always fun to experiment and learn new software! It really isn't too bad after you get over the first little bit of suffering! Above are some my first real tries at using sketchbook pro that I have done since my laptop died! I have been experimenting with their brush creator and making some interesting brushes! It has been pretty sweet and I am getting more and more comfortable with the program!

I would really encourage everyone to at least mess around a little with the brush creator in whatever program you are using! I have really only recently been going all out and making my own brush sets. I feel like it helps make your work become truly all of your own and makes it more unique! I have been enjoying making new brushes and experimenting! I feel the brushes I have been making really help me do what I want to do with my work! Good luck! If anyone needs help with creating brushes in photoshop or Sketchbook Pro or about anything at all feel free to email! --> tscarlet (at)

Side note: Luckily I am getting my laptops motherboard replaced this week because I have 3 months left on my four year warranty! How lucky is that! ha! I definitely thought that it was up! cuttin it kinda close! :)

And some other stuff!

These are a just a few random things I done on the side recently! :D
